The Stewartville Ridge Trail follows a grassy ridge dotted with stately oak groves.

Continue straight on the Stewartville Trail, climbing southeast to an obvious notch in the skyline, where there are fine views of Mt. Diablo and the Stewartville Valley. As you crest a ridge, you come to a junction with the Ridge Trail, right, and the Carbondale Trail, left. Continue straight, now on the Ridge Trail, through a cattle gate. About 75 feet beyond the gate, you turn left at a T-junction to stay on the Ridge Trail.2 Here you turn left and head uphill on a moderate and then steep grade, soon arriving at another ridgetop.

You turn east and follow the narrow ridgetop, alternating between its north and south sides. The north side features a blue-oak woodland, whereas the south side is open grassland. Just past a pond you come to a junction with the Corcoran Mine Trail. Here you stay on the Ridge Trail by bearing left. The encroaching subdivisions near Contra Loma Reservoir show why protecting open space in the Bay Area is essential.
